Athletes and Celebrities to Participate in BTIG Charity Day

Athletes and celebrities will once again team up with BTIG, a global financial services firm, for its 10th Commissions for Charity Day on April 18, 2012…Since 2003, the international Commissions for Charity Day has raised more than $17 million from equity, fixed income and derivative trading commission profits in support of various nonprofit organizations. In the past nine years over 300 different children’s charities have benefited. The BTIG event is unique in that it is a client driven event. BTIG clients nominate charities and non profits for donation consideration.  BTIG encourages clients to select child focused organizations.

Fox, Reggie Jackson, Nick Swisher, Mark Teixeira, Jorge Posada, Allan Houston, Bode Miller (above) and Jim Boeheim are among the celebrities who will be attending this year’s Commissions for Charity Day in BTIG’s offices around the country in support of the event and their charitable foundations. Celebrities & Athletes Encourage Charity on 10-Year Anniversary of 9/11

iwill

Hundreds of people, including celebrities and athletes, have already signed up to join the 9/11 Tribute Movement, a drive to organize the single largest day of charitable service in U.S. history in observance of the 10-year anniversary of 9/11.

MyGoodDeed, a leading 9/11 nonprofit organization, and HandsOn Network, the volunteer activation division of Points of Light Institute, recently launched a inspiring national public service announcement (PSA) campaign themed “I will (pay tribute).”

The PSA’s feature relatives of 9/11 victims and survivors of the attacks, along with celebrities and others encouraging people everywhere to engage in good deeds and voluntary service in honor of those who perished in the attacks. Appearing in the campaign ads and/or online are more than 30 actors, singers and sports figures, including Samuel L. Jackson, Mariska Hargitay, Hillary Duff, Jordin Sparks, New York Yankees’ first baseman Mark Teixeira and Cleveland Cavaliers’ Baron Davis.

Each shares their good deed plans for 9/11…a few that caught my eye:

“I will…design and wear a bow tie for all the victims of 9/11.” -Dhani Jones

“I will…volunteer in my community and help out people in need.” –NY Yankee Mark Teixeira

“I will…find a way to help someone become more literate on that day.” -Samuel L. Jackson

“I will…take the kids from the Rising Stars of America Foundation to clean up the beach.” -Baron Davis

“I Will’s” posted from family and friends include: I will promote peace and support beyond 911…I will watch USA play Ireland in the Rugby World Cup…I will proudly wear a black armband in remembrance of all 9/11 victims…I will pray for the people who lost a loved one on this day and for our troops, law enforcement, and fire engineers all over the nation…I will say a prayer at my grandsons first birthday party, it seems odd celebrating such a joyous occasion on such a sad date in history.

You can read more, view the PSA’s and add your own “I will” tribute on the 9/11 Day Observance Facebook page (Facebook.com/911day) and website (911day.org).

As always, thanks for reading~
