Andy Roddick Gives Good Tweet

Andy Roddick Gives Good Tweet

While researching the 6th Annual Andy Roddick Foundation Charity Gala (September 21, 2011 to include cocktails, dinner, a live auction and an intimate performance by Sir Elton John) I was sucked into Roddicks Twitter Feed after I noticed him retweeting like it was his last day on earth. It started with one ‘update’ he sent to his 719,000+ fans around the world:

“We will never forget…... I am a proud American.”

And after that, Roddick literally retweeted hundreds and hundreds of some of the messages he received in response from fans around the world…and it made for a beautiful read.  Granted, many athletes were sharing 9/11 messages-but Andy seemed to be the only one retweeting and not watching football (thank gawd).

For those not sucked into the Twitter void yet, here’s a small sampling of the messages Roddick received and retweeted for all to read:

Your friends in Canada stand with you today to join in remembering heroes of 9/11 and thanking and blessing the USA.

I’m from Brazil and I stand with you and your country. God bless the USA. We will never forget.

Many in Honduras, as I have, either worked or studied in the US, we are all together with every American on this anniversary!

Japan is with you Andy, we will never forget.

Hi Andy. Its 11pm here in the Philippines but I’m still watching CNN to remember 9/11. Filipinos are with you.

We here from Kuwait take the hats off to all Americans, what a great nation!

Condolences from Pakistan for all the victims of the horrendous tragedy of 9/11.10 years down the line – we will never forget!

Horrible tragedy will never be forgotten all over the world… I am Ukrainian. I don’t want this to happen again.

I am from Venezuela and together we stand I am proud to live in the United States We Remember.

Hi Andy. I’m here at Saudi Arabia, watching Al Jazeera to commemorates 9/11 attack. What a great nation you have.

Fuerza from Peru. What happened 10 years ago is difficult to forget. I’m sure all the world is with America today #9.11Tweet

Thought are for 9.11 from South Africa

From Chile our thoughts are for all the American people this 9/11

Prayers from Scotland. The solidarity of your nation is so admirable on 9/11. Difficult times. Stay strong all x

The messages to Roddick keep coming from the Netherlands, Scotland, Columbia, Uruguay, Indonesia, Israel, Dubai, Ecuador, Czech Republic, Vietnam, India and Algeria…essentially giving me reason to believe that twitter really isn’t such a bad thing after all.

As always, thanks for reading~

Formula One Drivers Heat Up Catwalk for Sir Elton John

Formula One Drivers Heat up the Catwalk for Sir Elton John’s Foundation

Prior to winning the Monaco Grand Prix last weekend in Monte Carlo, Jenson Button, along with six other Formula One hotties, took part in a fashion show at the Amber Fashion event to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation.

Strutting the catwalk for charity were Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Mark Webber, Adrian Sutil, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Sebastian Vettel and F1 veteran David Coulthard. The sports hottest drivers wore designs by Petra Ecclestone- daughter of F1 Management CEO Bernie-from her F1 inspired men’s wear collection FORM…Mark Webber commented on his second appearance as a model for the event: “Last year my knees were shaking a bit, but now it’s all routine! Could the catwalk be a career for me? No. So far I’ve never been a fashion junkie, but you never know – never say never!” Jenson Button also returned to the catwalk for the second year in a row: “Whatever you might think, a modeling career was definitely never my ‘plan B,” said this years Monaco Grand Prix winner, “I do this here because it is a fun event and it is for a good cause. Hopefully the guests will put their hands in their pockets and get some money out this evening. For us drivers it’s a nice break to do something different.” Indeed…strutting their stuff seems like a pretty good ‘something different’ to me…to view photos of our F1 babes decked out in FORM fashions, visit the F1 website HERE.

I don’t know how this one snuck by me…it opened October 30 at the National Portrait Gallery in London and runs through March 8, 2009…Terrell Owens (above), Matt Dawson and Thierry Henry are just a few of the beautiful sports babes who participated in ‘Champions,’ an amazing black and white nude portrait project by photographers Anderson and Low that benefits the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

The ‘Champions’ exhibit has over 30 previously unseen nude portraits on display, of some of the hottest athletes shot by photographers Anderson & Low. The collection of images took several years to complete-making me wish I had been along on that road trip…they visited three different continents to shoot the hotties after the photographers conceived the idea to support the Elton John Aids Foundation and to raise awareness of the global issue of HIV/AIDS…consider my awareness ‘raised’…

“Transcending cultural and socioeconomic boundaries the universal appeal of these athletes made them the ideal subjects for this project,” reads the press release. “Their nudity in the portraits is symbolic, illustrating both their physical beauty and prowess alongside their vulnerability and humanity.”

If you’re in London and want to check out the images, admission to the Gallery is free…they are also selling a book in the gallery’s bookshop: The ‘Champions’ book by Anderson and Low, which contains 138 images of the participating athletes…and yes, I would love a copy from someone for my birthday next month.
