Snoop To Buy Soccer Team and Hire Sir David Beckham?
According to the Daily Record, Snoop Dogg-er, Snoop Lion is ready to shell out big bucks to invest in (soccer club) Celtics after they beat Barcelona in the Champions League this year.
Snoop, in his own words:
“I got a lot of interest in soccer. It’s not a new thing for hip hop stars to invest in sports teams but it is a new thing for hip hop stars to invest in soccer teams…I didn’t catch the whole Barcelona game but I watched the highlights. I know Barcelona are
a big deal, and it shows Celtic are a big deal as well.”
The team, estimated to be worth about $47M, had the highest average home attendance of any Scottish club for 2010/2011 season, and Snoop wants a piece.

“I see how passionate Celtic fans are about their team and I could see myself making an investment if any of the board wanted to sell…I haven’t really thought how much. I don’t need to run a soccer club but enough of a percentage to get me on the board so I can be heard…I want to bring a bit of Snoop to things…I am passionate about my sport. The boxes at Celtic would never be the same once I have hosted a party there.” (True dat: Snoop was once banned from coming to the UK after a series of drug and firearms offences but now he’s allowed back.) Athletes Film PSA Against Dating Violence
David Beckham, Jeremy Lin, Eli Manning, Jimmy Rollins, Evan Longoria, Joe Torre and Andy Katz joined President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in this PSA to raise awareness about dating violence.
Despite the significant progress made in reducing violence against women, young women continue to face the highest rates of dating violence and sexual assault. In the last year, one in 10 teens has reported being physically hurt on purpose by a boyfriend or girlfriend. One in five young women has been sexually assaulted while in college. In response to these alarming statistics, Vice President Biden launched the 1is2many campaign last year. This campaign focuses his longstanding commitment to reducing violence against women specifically on teens and young women ages 16-24. By targeting the importance of changing attitudes that lead to violence, and educating the public on the realities of abuse, this Administration is leading the way to stop violence against women before it begins
Interesting that they chose sports hotties to participate…how about a campaign to support women who claim sexual abuse at the hands of a sports star? How quickly these women become the subject of hatred, immediately labeled as gold-diggers or groupies and liars.

David Beckham Visits Hospital Down Under
David Beckham Visits Hospital Down Under
‘It is estimated that 100 million children live and work on streets around the world, where they are exposed to violence, abuse and exploitation. As a Dad with young children, I can’t imagine how life was for these young children living and working on the streets. They are exposed to so many threats and dangers, and are missing out on the basics in life – having people around who love and guide them.’ ~ David Beckham

A Message from David Beckham
A Message from David Beckham
“As a UNICEF Ambassador it is important for me to help keep the story of the Children’s Famine in East Africa in the headlines. The situation in Southern Somalia is worsening. One little boy or girl is dying from starvation every six minutes. Please share this with your friends because the more of us that share, the more lives we can save. Thank you.”

Celebrities Issue Pleas for East Africa
Celebrities Issue Pleas for East Africa
By now, I’m sure you’re aware that ten of thousands of Somalis are literally starving to death in East African refugee camps…militants are blocking aid while the world watches in horror…mothers are fighting each other to feed their babies and celebrities are urging our involvement.
Yahoo! News spoke to a reporter in Somalia who spoke about what it’s like in the refugee camps of the war-torn and famished country.
“There was no food, no help. There are kids dying left and right—I’m not exaggerating. They buried 12 on the day I visited,” said Jason Straziuso, a reporter for the Associated Press.
“The most touching thing so far has been when this small child waved at me yesterday. I stuck my head in her tent and she was lying, motionless, flies flying everywhere and she sort of stuck her head up and waved at me,” he said. “That put a lump in my throat because I don’t know that she’s going to get better, in fact I think she has a good chance of not getting better.”
Stepping up to the plate are numerous athlebrities and celebrities urging us all to give what we can to Save the Children. David Beckham (pictured above with baby Harper) was one of the first to issue a plea for help. Earlier this week, Victoria Beckham tweeted “children need your help,” and this morning, my favorite tapa, Rafael Nadal asked for our help via Facebook:
- “Good morning Everyone. I need one thing. Millions of children are facing starvation right now – this doesn’t have to happen….Save The Children has launched an emergency aid response in Africa. Please watch this video, share with friends and download Bob Marley & The Wailer’s single ‘High Tide or Low Tide’ with all proceeds going to the East Africa food crisis appeal. You can help now. Thanks! Rafa”
The video is just one branch of the Marley empire that is living the One Love life-as Rita, Rohan and Ziggy Marley just donated $100k to charity:water.

At Sir Beckham’s Request:

Cristiano Ronaldo to Model Armani Underwear
Cristiano Ronaldo to Model Armani Underwear
The most expensive soccer player in history is about to give us the greatest gift since Beckham bared it and the Italian squad posed for D&G…Italian fashion designer Armani confirms that soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo will model underwear and jeans for the new spring 2010 campaign.
The Real Madrid hottie-formerly of Manchester United-also plays for Portugal’s national team…is, without question, the greatest soccer player ever.
I expect we’re going to see a whole lotta of what Ronaldo is um…packing, but what’s a good package without something beautiful inside…Ronaldo has a great history of charitable giving…he’s been an ambassador for the online Score for the Red Cross fundraising campaign which is a humanitarian project launched by UEFA and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)…stud also flew an 11-year-old tsunami survivor and his father to a World Cup qualifier before rallying other players to pitch in and buy them a new home…he’s auctioned off his personal sports gear to the tune of over 1 billion rupiah for tsunami relief efforts…and in March of this year, he donated £100,000 to the hospital that helped saved his mother’s life after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007…this is just a partial list of his love, and in my book, its good enough to qualify him for a semi-nude Armani campaign. Bring it on Cristiano!

David Beckham & Zinedine Zidane Make Footprints
David Beckham & Zinedine Zidane Make Footprints

This weekend, there were a lot of happy kids in El Segundo California as two of the worlds most recognized and sexiest soccer athletes – David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane – helped kick off the ‘Footprint Fields Community Program’ at the Campus El Segundo Athletic Fields. “I’m really excited to be back, and it’s a pleasure for [Zinedine and I] to be here” said Beckham. “Facilities like this give kids a chance to have a safe place to play and will help to grow the game in this country.”
Beckham and Zidane were on hand to help launch ‘a new nationwide community initiative to inspire and enable an American soccer nation’…which in theory sounds great, but in reality? Not so sure…an American soccer nation? I don’t see it happening…if Becks couldn’t kick-start this nations soccer-libido when he came aboard the Galaxy ship, then I’m not quite sure how he and Zidane are going to infuse soul into this initiative…but Becks feels differently. “It’s all about growing the game in this country,” said Beckham. “Kids can come down to these facilities and enjoy themselves, and that sends American soccer in the right direction.”
Maybe the key IS to get Europe’s biggest soccer names and dangle them in front of the next generation…kids were going nuts as Beckham and Zidane stuck their feet into the concrete while announcing the Footprints Fields donation program-granted, the kids were more interested in getting the dirty towels used to clean our Hotties feet after implanting their soles in concrete, but who could blame them, I would have done the same thing-actually, I probably would have pushed a few kids outta the way to get one but that’s another post.
The Footprints Fields program is a collaborative effort by MLS W.O.R.K.S., FieldTurf and adidas to build new turf soccer fields in urban locations and communities all over the country. This year, the program will build fields in communities in New York City, Milwaukee, Seattle, Inglewood, Calif. and Vancouver. “The ‘Footprint Fields’ program is designed to encourage soccer players of all levels and backgrounds to pick up a ball and join 10 friends on the field to play the beautiful game of soccer,” said Patrik Nilsson, adidas America President. “From cleats and balls to uniforms and fields, providing the right equipment and infrastructure is an important way we can inspire and enable an American soccer nation.”
“It’s nice to see the U.S. taking a bigger role in soccer,” said Zidane. “It was good to see the national team do so well in the FIFA Confederations Cup and to beat the Spanish. It proves that soccer in the U.S. is rising to another level. It’s also great to see adidas take such a large role in helping to grow the sport of soccer in the United States…the importance of supporting youth soccer and growing the sport is my passion now that I’m retired from the professional level.”
