Michael Phelps Among Honorees at Celebrity Fight Night

Michael Phelps Among Honorees at Celebrity Fight Night

This years Celebrity Fight Night once again knocked out the competition with another one of their amazing fundraisers for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center. Billed as one of the nations largest fundraising efforts, Celebrity Fight Night has raised more than $52 million for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center in Phoenix and other charities.

Last year, I was fortunate enough to attend. This year, I watched on the sidelines as guests enjoyed a delicious evening filled with the likes of Michael Phelps, Kurt Warner, Jon Bon Jovi, Reba McEntire, Bo Derek, Jordin Sparks, Forest Whitaker and many others.

Of course, the legend himself, Muhammad Ali was the guest of honor at Celebrity Fight Night XV, held at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday.

The annual event has raised $52 million for various charities throughout its 15-year run, with the primary beneficiary being the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center. This year’s event was hosted by the queen of sweet Reba McEntire and, featured musical performances by Jon Bon Jovi, Charise and Ray Firestone.

And as they do every year, CFN honors hotties in the sports, entertainment and business communities who ‘best represent the qualities associated with the Champ and his fight to find a cure for Parkinson’s Disease,’ This year’s honorees…actor Forest Whitaker, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner and Olympic swimming god Michael Phelps.

How to Get a Celebrity to Your Event

How to Get a Celebrity to Your Event
hki
Almost everyday someone askes me: “How can I get a celebrity to attend my event?”

Not an easy question to answer, especially with the slumping economy …but from experience, here’s what I’ve learned…The most important thing is to be a registered nonprofit. Most, if not all, athletes and celebrities won’t touch you unless you’re registered. Unfair, maybe. But since 9/11 a plethora of fakers have popped up to ruin it for those who really are out to do good. There’s really no way around this unless, of course, your best friend is a baller and wants to back you. Which brings me to a massive black-eye in the celebrity charity world…athletes and their foundations. Although not exclusive to athletes, many feel the need to put their cousin or girlfriend in charge of their foundation…Oh god-where do I start? I once flew out of state to attend an event for which I was fully-credentialed for, and when I got there, the 20-year-old gum chewing Foundation PR bimbo handed me a general admission ticket and said ‘this is your credential’…after realizing all the lights weren’t on with this girl, I left with an incredibly bad taste left in my mouth about this particular ‘super-star’ athlete-why would he have someone on his payroll who couldn’t differentiate between a media pass and a general admission ticket? All I can say is leave it to the professionals people…I could spout off a list of celebrities/athletes who’s foundations, PR people, publicists and the celeb themselves couldn’t give a hoot about charity, yet put on an incredibly sincere public persona of a ‘giver’. But I won’t name names, they know who they are…it boils down to character and it’s fairly easy to determine who the good guys are after speaking with those in their camp. Birds of a feather remember?

jennifer-love-hewitt-and-ross-mccallfrankie

Once you’re registered as a non-profit, and begin looking for a celebrity to attach to the event, the hard work begins. And don’t be shy. Do your research-find out who the celebrities’ agent, publicist and mangers are. Call them. Email them. Can’t find that info on-line? You’re not trying hard enough! The Internet is your friend…research…find other charities your chosen celebrity might be affiliated with and call them if you need to. The most important thing is to not be shy. Be persistent but polite too. If you get a “no thanks” leave it at that and move onto the next. Can’t find out who represents that baseball player you’d like to attend your event? Simply call the team and ask who his rep is! If you’ve got the passion in your soul to help others, someone will step up and help.

More help for those looking for celebrities to attend their events, comes from celebrity events planning companies. Admittedly, I have NO idea of the cost associated with using one, but I can tell you from experience, this may be the best way to go. And the best of the best is Hollywood Knights International.

denzelwashingtonwilliam

After attending many, many events, I can say unequivocally, that Hollywood Knights International is one of the best run and most sincere “full-service celebrity events production and promotional firm.”

The company was founded by the Godfather of pairing celebrities with charities- David Mirisch. When David founded the company it was simply called David Mirisch Enterprises. And this was way back in 1973, long before anyone else was luring celebrities to the golf courses for charity. Eventually, David passed the reins to his son Michael, who took over the celebrity basketball team, renamed it Hollywood Knights and just like that, an institution was born.

Currently, the Hollywood Knights are making our troops happy during their annual USO Hawaii Tour, which runs March 16-22…prior to their leaving, I requested to interview them and as they scrambled to pack up gear for the USO Tour, they didn’t brush me off with a “Oh, we’ll talk when we get back” response, but rather-they were excited to share their love for giving-back with my readers.

The full interview can be read on LOOK TO THE STARS…but in part, I asked…

Michael: What was it like to take over as CEO? Growing up with such an incredible role model (David of course) must have been an amazing experience?

My father is an icon and pioneer in the celebrity fundraising business. He pretty much invented this genre and at 73, he’s still producing events. He is an incredible role model and it’s been a blessing and my good fortune to have him as a father first and foremost, and also a business mentor,” he told me, “He continues to inspire me every single day. I became CEO when I officially took the basketball team under my wing and infused it with young talent that packed the gyms out with screaming fans.”

Current celebrities playing for HKI basketball for the USO Tour include: Aaron Carter (House of Carters); Frankie Delgado (The Hills, Bromance, Keeping up with the Kardashians); Josh Henderson (90210, Desperate Housewives); James Kyson Lee (Heroes); James Lesure (Lipstick Jungle, Las Vegas); Cody Linley (Dancing With The Stars, Hannah Montana); Venom (American Gladiators); Wolf (American Gladiators); and Aaron Yoo (Friday the 13th, Disturbia).

Michael continues: “The majority of the celebrities with whom we work are charitable people in general, and want to give back to the community. It’s not something you can fake,” said Michael, “Most of our events are not paid personal appearances where the stars receive a fee, so when you see a celebrity at a Hollywood Knights event, they are lending their name to the cause itself. We are so grateful to the countless celebrities that have year after year taken the time out of their busy schedules to support our events and the charities that are involved.

Vicky Mirisch, Director of Marketing/Public Relations for HKI, explained to me the most rewarding aspect of being part of the organization…“That’s an easy question,” she said, “Raising money to help people all over the world through events that incorporate celebrities, fun, and giving back to the community. There is a feeling of incredible satisfaction after every event we produce because we know at the end of the day countless lives are going to change for the better. There is that quote from Emerson that states: “to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, that is to have succeeded.” This quote hangs in our office and we read it every single day. It really sums it all up for us.”

Among the thousands of stars, musicians, and world-class athletes who have devoted their time and influence at Hollywood Knights International events: Frank Sinatra, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck, Denzel Washington, Will Smith, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee Simpson, Mariska Hargitay, Coolio, David Arquette, Michael Landon, Merv Griffin, Muhammed Ali, Joe Dimaggio, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Evander Holyfield, Mark Harmon, Matthew Perry, Tara Reid, Fergie, Backstreet Boys, ‘Nsync, Woody Harrelson, Bruce Jenner, Pat Boone, Mario Lopez, Wilt Chamberlain, Gladys Knight, Sugar Ray Leonard, Olivia Newton-John, Pamela Anderson, Shaquille O’Neal, Tony Hawk, Wayne Gretsky, Jimmy Connors, Mike Tyson, Buzz Aldren, Kevin Sorbo, Boyz II Men, Joe Montegna, Haley-Joel Osment, Judd Hirsch and Cylk Cozart.

Here’s just a sampling of what the Hollywood Knights have planned for this year: The Foothill Aids Project Celebrity Bowling Classic (April 09); Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley Celebrity Golf Classic (May); Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Celebrity Fishing Tournament (May); A.G.Spanos Golf Tournament (June); Cedars Sinai Sports Spectacular at the Century Plaza Hotel, California (June); Byron Scott Foundation Gala Dinner in Century City CA (August); The K.I.S. Foundation Celebrity Golf Tournament (Oct).

For more info and a list of all events, please visit:
HOLLYWOOD KNIGHTS INTERNATIONAL

Hopefully, I’ve helped some of you out just a little bit? Remember, register as a non-profit; research publicists, agents, managers and PR firms; be persistent yet polite; and most of all, follow your passion. Whether you chose to hire a promotional firm to garner a celebrity, or do all the leg work yourself, it’s a difficult-yet attainable-task and if you remain tenacious, you will eventually land a celebrity or athlete to endorse your event.

Ryan Sheckler and His Foundation Are All Right By Me

Ryan Sheckler and His Foundation Are All Right By Me

Ryan Sheckler first caught my eye in 2003 after watching him do amazing things in the X Games…I put my finger on the pulse of his career and waited for the rest of the industry to catch up. Granted, Tony Hawk took notice way before I did (I’m not one to step on the godfather of skate’s toes)…next came a nod from the Sports Business Journal…then MTV sniffed him out and just like that, the kids a multimillionaire teen-aged heartthrob with his own TV show (Life of Ryan), throngs of squealing girls chasing after him and maybe, just maybe, he’s going to come out of this circus we call ‘fame’ with his morals in check.

ryan_sheckler ryan_sheckler2 ryan_sheckler3

The more athlete charity related events I cover, the more Sheckler pops up on my radar. The photos here are from the Mia Hamm/Nomar Garciaparra celebrity soccer event last month. Sheckler was one of the few guys to go into the stands and sign autographs. These two little girls waited patiently until Ryan noticed them, signed their soccer balls, then knelt down and signed their shirts. Not something I see very often from someone his age or of his caliber. And correct me if I’m wrong, but I haven’t seen much scandal associated with him. I’ve only seen a smiling skater loving life and giving back when he can. Seriously, he’s only what 19?

Anyway, for you Sheckler fans needing more, the young buck, along with his Ryan Sheckler Foundation, will be hosting ‘FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS’ (February 6, 2009, at 7pm) at the Grove at Anaheim. The evening will feature a multi-disciplined fight night with proceeds from this event benefiting Road 2 Recovery and TACA; Talk about Curing Autism. SCHEDULED TO FIGHT: Kit Cope (4 time Muay Thai Champion); Danny Abbadi (The Ultimate Fighter); Andy Wang (The Ultimate Fighter); Craig Wilkerson (The OC submission expert); & Jason Ellis (Professional skateboarder and Sirius radio host will be making this professional MMA debut) More to be announced…*fight card subject to change. Plus Special Musical Guest: LIL’ JON.

If you can’t make it to the event…how about some stylish support, which helps a great cause. The Sheckler Foundation supports causes benefiting children and injured action sports athletes…for a donation of $6.00 or more, they’ll send you a Sheckler Foundation-Down for Life bracelet. Celebrity Soccer with Mia Hamm, Nomar Garciaparra, Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Jimmy Jean-Louis and others

Celebrity Soccer: Mia Hamm, Nomar Garciaparra, Tony Hawk, Ryan Sheckler, Jimmy Jean-Louis

Saturday afternoon I hit up the Mia Hamm-Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer event at the (beautiful) Home Depot center in Los Angeles. This is the second year Mia’s held the event to raise money for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the Mia Hamm Foundation- while also encouraging fans to sign up as bone-marrow donors. Last year, the event saved at least one life after they found a donor…during halftime, there were a few tears shed as donors were introduced to recipients…seriously, I even noticed a few celeb’s with wet eyes.

img_0105mia-and-nomar-meet-teh-kids

Partial roster of do-gooders kicking it for Hamm: Andrea Bowen (Desperate Housewives), C. Thomas Howell, Josh Hutcherson, Mark Consuelos (All My Children), Jimmy Jean-Louis (Heroes), Angus Jones (Two and a Half Men), James Leisure (Lipstick Jungle/Las Vegas), Josh Henderson (90210), Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden, skate-gods Tony Hawk and Ryan Sheckler, and several of Hamm’s teammates from the U.S. National Team including Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, Joy Fawcett, Tisha Hoch, Abby Wambach and current and former male soccer hotties Cobi Jones, Chris Seitz, Matt Reis, Brian Dunseth and Alexi Lalas.

img_0270-mia-hamm-and-andrea-bowen

Love for each and every celebrity who kicked it under the hot sun for Mia’s Foundation and in support of a great cause. Hamm spoke before the event about her motivation: “My foundation started about 1999 and was motivated from my relationship with my brother who passed away in 1997 after complications from a bone-marrow transplant,” she said prior to the game. “For us, we shared a love of sport and I also saw first hand what my parents and his parents had to go through, not just financially, but struggling to find a bone-marrow match, so my foundation-the proceeds go to help families find bone-marrow transplants and also to encourage and empower young female athletes.”

img_0281andrea-bowen

Aside from Nomar and Mia, I’m giving extra love to a few celebrities who I noticed go above and beyond during the day. First time participant, actress Andrea Bowen…girl never stopped smiling or signing autographs for the young fans: “This is my first game and I’m pretty excited that I get to play with all these people. They’re definitely going to have to pull extra weight because I really don’t know what I’m doing but it should be fun and its all for a really good cause”

img_0201ryan-shecklerimg_0221-ryan-sheckler

Next up, Ryan Sheckler, who was simply hoping for a goal. ‘This is actually the first time I’ve ever played soccer. It feels great, it’s going to be a great day. Hopefully I make a goal, my goal is to make a goal today, just one and I’ll go home happy.” Going home happy were the hundreds of prepubescent girls who squealed with delight each time Sheckler inhaled. Proving that you can be young, rich, arrogant and humble at the same time-Sheckler took about 20-minutes to sign autographs while others were on the field warming up.

img_0257tony-hawkimg_0433-tony-hawk

Tony Hawk-aka Ryan Sheckler in 20-years- also impressed the hell outta me. Hawk went out of his way to sign autographs for a group of screaming fans desperate to meet their hero. I’ve been to a lot of events, and not every celebrity who appears takes extra steps to ensure everyone leaves happy…Hawk is definitely an exception.

img_0259-jean_louis-jimmy

Perhaps the happiest participant was Heroes star Jimmy Jean-Louis. Now, don’t kill me kids but I don’t watch the show, so I wasn’t really hip to the Haitian. What I was hip to were his dimples, “It is a beautiful day today and we are going to have a great time.” Indeed. Jean-Louis is one of the busiest celebrity charity advocates I’ve met in a while. He is a member of the celebrity soccer team Hollywood United, which plays tons of charity events, and as a spin off to it, dimples founded his own organization to help the people of Haiti. “I started my own organization Hollywood Unites for Haiti. What I’ve been doing is collecting all the used equipment and going to Haiti to give it to them because they really need this-that’s really how the whole idea of Hollywood Unites for Haiti started. About a month ago, some of us were invited to Haiti-including Josh Brolin and Diane Lane and that was for the opening of a hospital for handicapped, so that was nice and I plan to bring more awareness to Haiti because they really need help.” Since I don’t watch his show and I’ve seen his soccer skills in action- Jimmy Jean-Louis (for purposes of this site) is now classified as an athlete. Much, much, more info about him and his organization to come.

img_0459-benji-madden-makes-babay-cry

And finally, what was Benji Madden (Good Charlotte) doing with this baby to make it cry? Feeding it a nectarine? Benji ran off the field, took the kid in his arms, baby instantly began crying and then he’s holding a piece of fruit up to it…kinda funny, don’t know if it’s his baby or not because I’m not into celebrity gossip but thought some of you may get a kick out of it.

Here’s a link to most of my photos…Mia Hamm & Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge. Enjoy. And next year, might I suggest you cough up the $20 bucks to be there yourself?

Million Dollar Hawk: Tony Hawk That is.

Million Dollar Hawk: Tony Hawk That is.
Tony Hawk 5th Annual

In 2002, Tony Hawk established the Tony Hawk Foundation to assist low-income communities create well-designed skateboard parks. Over the years, the Foundation has given away over a million dollars in grants and assistance…and last weekend, action-sports legends joined Hawk for the fifth annual Activision Presents ‘Stand Up For Skateparks.’ All in all, the event raised over $1M big ones for T-Hawks Foundation.

Shawn White at Tony Hawk event

The shindig went down at an exclusive estate in Beverly Hills, with attendees including Shaun White (L), Anthony Kiedis, David Spade, Perry Ferrell, Chris “BigBlack” Boykin, Kathy Ireland, Bam Margera, BMX legend Mat Hoffman, Jamie Lee Curtis (far right with Andy Macdonald) and Mia Hamm (C).

The one-day-action-sports carnival even included a special acoustic performance by Social Distortion, and a Vert Demo on Hawk’s personal ramp-where he was joined by White, Bucky Lasek, Andy Macdonald, Kevin Staab, and BMX riders John Parker and Dennis McCoy.

But Tony Hawk never seems to stop donating and building his empire at the same time. Bidding is open for Hawks Jeeps being auctioned off for his foundation…(photos by Jody Morris and Colin Vincent)…and just today it was announced that Hawk has teamed up with NBTY, a leading children’s vitamin supplier…the company has created the Tony Hawk HuckJam brand of vitamins. The chewy gummy vitamins are shaped like miniature skateboard decks, skateboard wheels and Tony’s signature hawk skull…aside from being fun to chew on, they are said to provide a good source of 11 vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C and Vitamin B-12…

New events have been added on the celebrity athletes’ charity events calendar page including the Suns Celebrity Waiters event, and more importantly-Carmelo Anthony’s Thanksgiving event-which I’ll write about as soon as I’m done having a Sweet Melon heart-attack.

It never gets old…

Tony Hawk and Desmond Tutu Appear on Iconoclasts while Michael Phelps Lands Three Covers, Lance Armstrong Wastes Water and the London Telegraph Echo’s Delinda’s Thoughts on Racism

WHAT DO DESMOND TUTU AND TONY HAWK HAVE IN COMMON?

The new season of Iconoclasts has just been announced. In case you’re not hip to the show on the Sundance channel…each thirty-minute episode features two “leading innovators” from different fields who come together to discuss their passion and creativity. Season four of the show looks to be the most interesting season yet with such parings as Archbishop Desmond Tutu and entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson-when either of these two men open their mouths its worth listening and its worth setting the DVR. Skateboarder Tony Hawk had a discussion with filmmaker/actor Jon Favreau…how about a conversation between political humorist Bill Maher and music industry executive Clive Davis? Hell yeah. And hello- tennis champion Venus Williams chillen with and musician/producer Wyclef Jean? Obviously, you’ll most likely learn something if ya tune in…other parings for season four include fashion designer Stella McCartney and artist Edward Ruscha; and actress Cameron Diaz and architect Cameron Sinclair.

PHELPS LANDS THREE COVERS AND ARMSTRONG WASTES WATER

Would love to see an episode between Michael Phelps and Lance Armstrong. Michael Phelps has earned his place in history and is set to grace the covers of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and the August 25 edition of Sports Illustrated. For his fifth stint as an SI cover boy, Phelps will appear with his eight-gold medals hanging from that multi-million-dollar body. So I’m wondering what kind of conversation Phelps would have with Lance Armstrong about water. Mainly water usage. According to the NY Times, Armstrong, aka Sir Lance-A-Lot-of-Water, is one of the “biggest individual users of water” in Austin, Texas. The water-cops claim that Lance’s water usage for July was 330,000 gallons of water. His lush Spanish-colonial home has an acre of gardens and a swimming pool that cause Armstrong’s water usage to be “38 times what the average household in the city uses in the summer.” Armstrong has been informed that Texas is going through a dry spell and officials are asking people to cut back on watering their lawns…Armstrong said, “I’m a little shocked. There’s no justification for that much water. I need to fix this.”

STEVE NASH: THE GENTLEMAN

Maybe Steve Nash can appeal to Lance Armstrong? Nash recently made an appeal to the government of Ontario, via messages on YouTube and Facebook, urging them to help fund the only treatment available to those who suffer from Hunter syndrome, a rare progressive genetic enzyme deficiency disorder. “The earlier patients receive the treatment, the better chance they have of stopping the progression of Hunter syndrome,” Nash said. “A close childhood friend, Simon Ibell, has seen his health improve significantly since being on enzyme replacement therapy. I hope all Canadians will join me in asking their politicians to fund enzyme replacement therapy for Hunter syndrome in Ontario and across Canada.” Nash’s buddy was diagnosed with Hunter syndrome before there was a treatment for the disorder. After participating in enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) as part of a clinical trial, his pain and suffering have drastically declined. “Even at my age, the treatment has had such a positive impact on my life - improved breathing, decreased organ size, improved joint flexibility,” Simon said. “Daily tasks are so much easier.” Thank you Steve Nash for once again stepping up to the plate for those who need it. And thanks to the Gentlemen’s’ Fund. This year, The Gentlemen’s Fund initiative has partnered with five outstanding charities and five celebrity ambassadors-including Steve Nash- to support five cornerstones essential to men: Opportunity, Health, Education, Environment, Mentorship and Delinda. Established in 2007 to commemorate GQ’s 50th anniversary, The Gentlemen’s Fund hopes to encourage individuals to become agents of change by contributing to charities that champion these causes.

QB’S USING NIKE GOGGLES

In efforts to improve the concentration of Quarterbacks, Nike has come up with a great idea that they’ve already strapped onto the faces of the Vikings QB’s at training camp…dudes are wearing special goggles provided by Nike that have lights inside that flash at different speeds to force them to concentrate and stay focused (no, they are not the ones pictured above)(Houston Chron)

RACISM IN LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES?

Speaking of goggles, I found YET ANOTHER article which reiterates my feelings about racism in a certain little country named Spain. Actually, and oddly enough, it takes aim at ‘Latin American’ countries, which I thought was interesting after mentioning the ‘racist’ group of Brazilians I encountered at a Halloween party a few years ago…so, for those of you still thinking that I made it all up or have a skewed perception of racism…read the latest in the Telegraph.

Lakers Sends Spurs Back to San Longoria, David Beckham Gets Wet, Tony Hawks Jeep for Charity Auction, Pro Team Challenge Countdown, Interview With the Real World’s Greg Halstead

DAVID BECKHAM- WET

Yeah, its Friday and I need to give a shout-out to David Beckham for pouring water on himself. Golden Balls is training with England, who are set to face Trinidad & Tobago in a friendly match June 2.

LAKERS BENCH SPURS

The Lakers came back from a 17-point deficit last night to beat the Spurs 100-92 and win the conference finals in five games. The Lakers celebrated the Western Conference championship before their adoring fans at Staples Center last night…among those adoring fans…

Dr. Dre, Tobey Maguire (L), Antonio Banderas, Cameron Diaz, Denzel Washington & P. Diddy (C), and B-Diddy (aka Baron Davis) and Adam Sandler (R). No doubt it was party-time in LA after the game…but didn’t see any sign of a weed-stealing posse sitting courtside to supply a certain bearded baller who is too-ego driven to address the lack of character his friends have.

TONY HAWKS JEEP

Tony Hawk has put his Jeep up on Ebay…from June 12-22 you can bid on a one of a kind 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 4×4, which has been tricked out with all the latest and best features. The winning bidder will also receive 4 VIP Tickets to Tony’s tour and get to meet him…the best part, 100% of the proceeds will benefit The Tony Hawk Foundation, which seeks to improve society by supporting and empowering youth.

GREG HALSTEAD: REAL WORLD HOTTIE

I know he’s not an athlete, but he’s certainly got the looks to be considered a hottie…admittedly, I don’t watch the ‘Real World’, but was asked to interview Greg for Look to the Stars. I did my research and after reading some of viewer comments about him-I thought for sure I was going to be talking to an arrogant fool. But it was quite the contrary. Greg was one of the nicest guys I’ve spoken to. He was candid, intelligent, articulate and confident. And the most surprising thing about Greg? Greg asked to be involved with charity- he told his PR guy that he wanted to do something worthwhile with his ‘fame.’ This weekend, Greg is donating his time to raise awareness about the Damon and Stella Foundation. For more details and my full interview with Greg Halstead, please visit Look to the Stars.

PRO TEAM CHALLENGE

We’re getting closer and closer to one of the most highly anticipated charity events to hit the West Coast…the Pro Sports Team Challenge celebrity golf tournament will held June 7th and 8th at Eagle Falls Golf Club at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Palm Springs, California. Legendary all-stars from baseball, hockey, basketball, and football, led by tournement commish Charles Barkley, will compete for a total purse of more than $250,000 for their charities. The Pro Sports Team Challenge will also be broadcast nationwide on Fox Sports Net June 28th and 29th.

The winning team of sports legends over the two-day golf tournament will present their charity with $100,000. Prizes for second, third, and fourth place are $75,000, $50, and $25,000. Fans also get involved in supporting the charities through registering as a VIP ProCoachTM strategist for one of the teams online at www.teamchallenge.com. For each paid VIP ProCoachTM registration, $1.00 is added to the charity’s purse, so register online today. $250,000 purse will be paid to the charities for each team, as selected by the Team Captains. Those institutions are (respectively): Baseball Assistance Team for baseball, United Service Organizations, Inc. for basketball, Operation Kids for football, and Hockey Fights Cancer for hockey. The purse will increase for any particular charity by $1.00 for each fan that registers as a paid ProCoach for that team.
