Mission Hills Group, one of China’s leading golf and tourism operators, announced that the 2012 Mission Hills World Celebrity Pro-Am has raised a total of US$500,000 for the tournament’s charitable partners—Yao Ming and UNICEF.
Some of the biggest names in Hollywood and the international sports scene descended on the tropical island of Hainan in southern China for the three day spectacular.

The Andy Roddick Foundation (ARF) will host its inaugural celebrity golf tournament April 14-15, 2013 in Austin Texas. The tournament will take place at the Spanish Oaks Golf Club, lauded by Golf Digest as one of the top courses in Texas.
Roddick caddied for Zach Johnson during the Par 3 Contest prior to the 2011 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club on April 6, 2011 in Augusta, Georgia, where he appeared to be…terrified? Granted Andy is king of making crazy faces but this one is priceless. (Photo by Jamie Squire/Getty Images)
Many of Roddick’s friends – professional athletes as well as entertainers – as well as other high profile personalities will participate in the event. “I’ve been fortunate to work with a lot of great performers and athletes over the years, and we’ve been able to support each others’ efforts to make a difference in our respective communities. I’m looking forward to many of them joining me in Austin for this first-ever event,” Roddick said. Continue reading
The 41st Annual Los Angeles Police Celebrity Golf Tournament and Family Fun Day is on Saturday, October 13, 2012.
The celebrity golf tournament is the only fundraiser benefiting the Memorial foundation. Each year, over $650,000 in direct financial grants are issued to officers and their immediate family members, who experienced unforeseen catastrophic circumstances, including death, illness and injury. The Memorial Foundation is the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Police Departments employee wellness program and has raised over $13.5 million without any direct taxpayer money. Continue reading
Hotties are about to take over the X Games in Los Angeles this weekend, but it’s the RallyCross debut on Sunday that has us excited.
The Global RallyCross Championship consists of five wheel-to-wheel RallyCross races, all featuring an X Games-style 70-foot gap jump.
Although we don’t really know much about Rallycross, we are enjoying the mini-exodus of action-sports stars getting behind the wheel. To wit, 14-time XG skateboard medalist Bucky Lasek who will be making his X Games RallyCross debut on Sunday.
Earlier this week, Lasek was joined by PGA Tour babe Rickie Fowler at the Subaru PUMA Global Rallycross Team Testing Day. Continue reading
At this week’s St Jude Fed-Ex Classic, most golf fans had their eyes on the players, while I, as usual, kept my eyes on the amazing Caddy for a Cure organization.
Caddy for a Cure offers the public the opportunity to experience a day “inside-the-ropes” at a PGA TOUR venue, caddying for a PGA TOUR player—with 100% of the proceeds going to charity.
During the event, Camilo Villegas’s caddy was part of the Caddy for a Cure program…Villegas is not new to the organization, but his latest involvement embodies what the organization is all about.
Mac McNeil is a young patient at St. Judes Hospital who is recovering from brain cancer …his father bought him a Caddy for a Cure experience and he escorted his Dad while he caddied for Villegas.
Caddy for a Cure: ‘Watching a father, and a son with brain cancer, enjoy the best that golf has to offer, with Camilo Villegas, is something very special. See the arm around the son as only a father can do, at this week’s St Jude Fed Ex Classic…there have been times in 10 years of ‘caddying for a cure’ that have choked us up.”
And for me, this is one of those rare moments in life where sports and humanity renew my faith in the power of love.
Thanks Camilo and Caddy for a Cure.

Since 2005, Zurich and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans – together with the Fore!Kids Foundation – has raised more than $8 million for over 40 charities that serve more than 200,000 children in need throughout southeastern Louisiana.
This year, the Zurich Classic gave a total of $216,000 to several initiatives – all under the “Zurich HelpPoint Fore!Kids” theme—intended to help families and children of New Orleans.
This direct contribution from Zurich is in addition to the approximately $1 million that the Zurich Classic brings in each year for charities supported by the Fore!Kids Foundation, a 501©(3) corporation and the charitable-arm of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
But just because the event is over, doesn’t mean you can’t play, in fact, Zurich Golf Ambassadors are asking you to join them in the Zurich Charity Cup, a 9-week fan voting contest and social media-based competition among the seven Zurich Ambassadors. Continue reading

Cancer for College is an Athlebrity favorite. Founded by cancer survivor Craig Pollard, CFC gives other cancer survivors college scholarships…Pollard is BFF’s with Ferrell, which makes the ‘classy’ comedian a natural fit as their spokesperson. Continue reading

While looking into a celebrity-charity event to be headlined by former NFL hottie Terrell Owens, Athlebrities discovered an interesting and refreshing trend among professional golfers, Bible Study.
Owens will compete in the 11th Annual Jack in the Box Celebrity Shootout to benefit the Phoenix Suns Charities and Suns Nite Hoops on Saturday March 3…scheduled to shoot hoops with Owens are Jersey Shore cast member, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro (who?); Anthony Anderson (“Transformers”, “The Departed”, “Barbershop”); Kerry Rhodes (Safety, Arizona Cardinals); and PGA Tour Golfer Bubba Watson among others. (Suns.com/CelebShootout)…but by following the Twitter breadcrumbs, we discovered that Bubba Watson has been attending Bible Study classes along with fellow professional golfers Ben Crane, Aaron Baddeley, Zach Johnson, Jonathon Byrd and Webb Simpson. Golf Hall of Famer, Ernie Els, is set to host the second annual Els for Autism Golf challenge, which has become the largest charity-driven, amateur golf tournament in history.
Backed by SAP, one of his top corporate sponsors, Els said: “SAP has taken over the golf challenge, so they’ve come in all guns blazing this year, and I think we’re going to have a wonderful time. I think we can double what we did last year.” Continue reading
For 53 years, the ‘Bob Hope’ Desert Golf Classic has attracted a ton of celebrities and athletes to its yearly event held in Palm Springs. Over the years, however, its popularity has waned…maybe because ‘Bob Hope’ doesn’t hold the same appeal that ‘Justin Timberlake’ does, but I dare say, Timberlake may not have the appeal that Slick Willy does.
Thanks to the William J. Clinton Foundation, the desert golf classic is back on the map.
Clinton’s Foundation teamed with Louisville, Kentucky based health insurance provider Humana this year-adding their names to the ailing tournament and by all accounts, may have rescued the event. Continue reading

Callaway Golf Gets Its Sexy Back Via Justin Timberlake
Today, Justin Timberlake was named a creative director for the Carlsbad-based Callaway Golf Co, the first non-tour player to be appointed as a staff professional.
Yeah right? After the initial confusion wore off, Athlebrities is on-board with this.
The golf equipment manufacturer has hired Timberlake to promote the 2012 RAZR line of equipment, which includes a new driver. He’s currently working on an advertising campaign in Las Vegas for the gear. Continue reading
Gift Idea: Cancer for College
At the top of my list for ‘what-makes-Christmas awesome’ is Elf, to wit, Buddy The Elf. So this year, why not give someone the best gift ever-a copy of Buddy The Elf signed by Will Ferrell? In addition to the gift of Buddy, you are also gifting education to a cancer survivor.
Cancer for College is giving away a copy of Elf, autographed by Will Ferrell (aka Buddy The Elf) just in time for Christmas! All you gotta do is donate $25 bucks and you’re entered to win, and maybe, if Buddy has time, he might deliver it himself?
About Cancer for College:
Will Ferrell is a huge supporter of Cancer for College, a nonprofit organization that grants college scholarships to young adults who have survived cancer. While most teenagers are getting ready for prom and applying to college, many are undergoing chemotherapy treatments and surgeries to save their lives. Even with great health insurance, the cost of medications and co-pays can add up, leaving a cancer survivor with little or nothing to help pay for college once healthy.
Cancer for College was created to help alleviate the financial burden of cancer and to reward young people for beating the odds and pursuing their dreams of higher education.
The contest ends December 16, so click HERE to get started.

LPGA Supports ‘Caddy For A Cure’
One of my favorite organizations, Caddy For A Cure, got some serious love from the LPGA during the Safeway Classic Presented by Coca-Cola in Portland last week.
‘Caddy For A Cure’ gives people a once in a lifetime experience of caddying for professional golfers while raising money for charity. The most recent event gave winners caddy-duties for three of the best from the LPGA: Paula Creamer, Stacy Lewis and Natalie Gulbis.
‘Caddy For A Cure’ was founded by Russ Holden 18 years ago after his friends son Christian was born with Fanconi Anemia, a devastating genetic bone marrow disorder. Christian now serves as the National Spokesperson for the organization, and has been capturing hearts on the golf courses for years. In fact, Christian’s list of celebrity-golf buddies include: Boo Weekly, Camilo Villegas, Phil Mickleson, Jim Furyk, Ricky Fowler and many others
‘Caddy For A Cure’ has been such a success that it’s now giving fans a chance to ‘Roadie For A Cure’ with Shania Twain as the first artist to support the cause. Athlebrities has had both eyes on ‘Caddy For A Cure’ for years and couldn’t be happier at their continued success. Plus, Christian is about the best spokesperson in the world, with an endearing disposition and a wonderfully wicked sense of humor.

“Golf Boys” Video Helps Charity
PGA golfer Ben Crane-along with buddies- Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, & Hunter Mahan –have formed the PGA’s exclusive boy band, “Golf Boys.” Their debut single, “Oh Oh Oh” aired this week yet left me wondering why Ian Poulter-in his normal garb-wasn’t included. Regardless, you’ll enjoy our golf hotties doing their best Athlebrity moves while raising money for charity. Presenting sponsor Farmers Insurance will donate $1,000 to charitable initiatives chosen by Crane and the insurance company for every 100,000 views of the video. (Which they’ll probably get from me alone, can you say Rickie Fowler? You know which one he is ladies…)

In just a few weeks, Athlebrities will be making its exit from the Web. After years and years of covering our athletic hotties and their charitable hearts, it seems almost serendipitous to be signing off at a time when my hope and dream of a nude Camilo Villegas gracing the cover of a magazine has finally come true. My work is done.

Justin Timberlake’s Charity Golf Event
Last week was a big week for Justin Timberlake as he hosted the annual Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Golf Open which concludes today…it started on Monday when JT attempted a hole-in-one at the Callaway Golf Center…Callaway offered Timberlake a $1 million charitable donation to Shriners Hospitals for Children if he could make a hole-in-one at a 180-yard, par-3 hole…he missed, but the good peeps at Callaway still gave a $5,000 donation…great video HERE of JT wearing sexy J Lindberg garb while speaking about the “sweet spot” and raising money for a good cause with sleepy eyes…

Will Ferrell Hosts 16th Annual Cancer for College Event
Cancer for College held its 16th annual fundraiser yesterday in Rancho Bernardo, and once again, funnyman Will Ferrell was the host. Ferrell’s support for the charity is rooted in a longtime friendship with double-amputee and cancer survivor Craig Pollard, founder of Cancer for College. “What Cancer for College does is provide college scholarships for cancer survivors and amputees,” explained Pollard, “Will’s been involved pretty much from the beginning.”
Ferrell brought his humor to the event while explaining how he and Craig (far right) bonded in college: “Every Wednesday night we would spoon, on the roof of the fraternity house, on a big bearskin rug.” After a beat though, he got serious for a minute, “It is the only charity I’m this actively involved in and am happy to lend my name to,” explained Ferrell. “It’s one of the purest charities you’ll ever be around in terms of-all the money goes directly to the kids, immediately and no one is turned away.”
Of course, discussions took place about the success of the infamous Will Ferrell sunscreen? “We sold 10,000 bottles in six weeks on the Internet,” said Pollard, “and we’ve just started presenting it to retail stores and internationally.” With this kind of public support, might we see more Will Ferrell Cancer for College products? “If it does kinda take hold it would fun to have it be almost like a Paul Newman type of thing,” said Ferrell, “Where all the proceeds would go to the charity…in fact, it’s a horrible sunscreen, it’s actually better on salad…it has almost a sage-parsley taste to it.”
Ferrell was also quick to please inquiring minds about a possible ‘Anchorman’ sequel: “Yeah, we’re talking about it. We’re just trying to figure out when we can fit it in to the schedule” said Ferrell, “But I think after we finish this movie we might start working on a script.” Ferrell’s speaking of his latest movie ‘The Other Guys’ which starts filming next week. It costars Samuel Jackson, the Rock and Mark Wahlberg…does this mean we might see Ferrell as a guest star on Wahlberg’s ‘Entourage’ one day? “They haven’t asked me,” said Ferrell, “But if they do- as long as they make the episode about the charity, I’m happy to do it.”
