Jordan Farmar Launches Sixth Annual Basketball Camp July 29, 2013

Jordan Farmar Foundation to Provide Scholarships to Union Rescue Mission Youth

Two-time NBA Champion and returning LA Lakers guard Jordan Farmar is pleased to announce that his sixth annual Hoop Farm Basketball Camp is opening its doors from July 29 – August 1, 2013 at UCLA’s newly renovated Pauley Pavilion. Farmar, a former UCLA Bruin, along with special guests from the NBA, will be in attendance all day to teach the campers.

All proceeds from the camp will be donated to The Jordan Farmar Foundation’s Hoop Farm Scholarship Fund, which will be used to provide camp tuition scholarships to athletes from underrepresented neighborhoods and those who show great potential. This year, scholarships will go to boys and girls from a variety of organizations, including the Department of Children & Family Services, YMCA, Boys & Girls Club and the Union Rescue Mission, which is one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. “As a native of Los Angeles, I’ve always held this city close to my heart and try to give back in every way that I can,” said Farmar. “Hoop Farm is a great opportunity for me not only to reconnect with local kids but to also help them improve their skills on the court.” This year, nearly 100 campers will be attending Hoop Farm on a scholarship.

Jordan looks forward to his return to his hometown and team this season, “there’s no place like home. I always enjoy coming back for camp and spending time teaching the kids, it’s one of the most enjoyable weeks of the offseason for me. Hoop Farm is a family atmosphere, and it’s the best type of homecoming celebration I can think of.”

“Summer activities like this really help our children forget, even for a little while, that they are living in a shelter and not their own home,” said Union Rescue Mission CEO Rev. Andy Bales. ”Job loss and the economy have forced many families into shelters. I’m so thankful to Jordan Farmar for providing this fun time for our kids.”

Hoop Farm 2013 is from July 29 through August 1 at UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion. Boys and girls ages 7-16 are eligible to attend the camp, which runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily. Camp features include daily yoga led by professional instructors, basketball and plyometric drills designed by a professional trainer, and competitive individual and team competitions. Each camper will get to take an individual photo with Farmar, and will also receive an official Hoop Farm t-shirt, reversible jersey, and yoga mat. The cost per camper is $450, which includes healthy lunches, snacks and hydrating beverages.
