Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman, Todd Herremans, now in his eighth year in the NFL, realizes the importance of giving back in the community and recently created his own Foundation in efforts to help where help is needed.
Athlebrities founder Delinda Lombardo, was happy to pick the NFL players mind about what makes him a mighty, mighty fine man.
A. To be honest I didn’t even know that the award existed until they called me and told me I won. It was interesting because they said I received an award for being cordial and a “good guy” to the reporters and sportswriters. I was shocked, I thought that is how everyone was suppose to act. They should have given the award to my parents for how they raised me.
Q: You’ve grown a mustache for charity to support the Movember movement? And via your foundation plan to help Habitat for Humanity, autism, cancer, and brain research – why these causes? Any personal experiences?
A. Yes! I enjoy the Movember campaign. It’s a fun and effortless way to raise money for a great cause. I chose the causes to get involved in based on different reasons. Family members and friends of mine have passed from cancer and it’s a terrible and all too common thing. A friend of mine opened my eyes to the world of Autism and the difficulties it brings, so I will try to help raise funds for Autism wherever I can. Many of the others are projects I have been involved with over my time in Philadelphia and have earned a special place in my heart. But we are not limiting ourselves to these specifically. The idea is to help where help is needed!
Q: On Twitter you said a pet-peeve of yours is when ‘people don’t realize how good they have it’…any other pet peeves?
A. Well there are a couple…but I don’t wanna sound like a picky person. Loud chewers would be one of them. People that you can actually hear eating.
Q: Football fans seem to go rabid when there are no games on, can you give us a team, foot, NFL, etc. update to sate their thirst?
A. Well the off-season is going great. We are very excited for all the changes and moves made by the front office and coaching staff. It is going to be an incredible year and can’t wait to get started. As for my foot progress is great and should be medically cleared in the next few weeks.
Q: If you could ask your fans to do one thing to improve this world, what would it be?
A. Hold the door for someone. It is an easy task and it will brighten someone’s day… or they could all donate $1 to the Herremans Foundation. haha
Q: Finally, if you had a theme song, what would it be?
A. Sooo many good ones to choose from but I guess it would probably be “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Many thanks to Todd for taking the time to chat with me about his big heart. To support him, please check out his website HERE. And to read more about his charity work, check out PART TWO of this interview on Look to the Stars!
