Surf Icon to Launch Photo Exhibit

Surf icon, legend, Zen-master, humanitarian, warrior, wave-dancer and all around stud, Rob Machado, will display and sell his photos to benefit his Foundation.

The launch of Machado’s images takes place in Encinitas California at boutique Bliss 101 on May 5th from 6 to 9 p.m. (above photo by Chris Straley but I’m sure Machado could take a self-portrait while surfing…we’ll have to wait and see?)

Machado will share images from his worldwide travels as well as his life in Encinitas and Cardiff…a percentage of proceeds from the sale of Machado’s work will benefit the Rob Machado Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on helping children understand their contribution towards a healthy earth.

Machado will be there to mingle with guests and personally autograph t-shirts and prints. The evening will also include live music, food, drinks and face painters for kids and crazy red-headed bloggers.

The Rob Machado Foundation (RMF) is a California based 501c(3) not-for-profit private foundation. Founded in 2004, RMF was created to support charities dedicated to environmental programs within Southern California. (Including Cardiff SEA, 1% For The Planet, B4BC – Boarding for Breast Cancer, Healing Notes Inc. and VH1 Save the Music Foundation.) Their primary mission is to provide funding and initiate educational programs focused on helping children understand their contribution towards a healthy earth.

In case you don’t know (from his website): Rob Machado is not just one of the world’s greatest surfers; he’s one of the sport’s most recognizable characters, a living icon who continues to expand the definition of what professional surfing is all about. Known for his Zen-like flow both on land and in the water, Machado was consistently seeded at the top of the rankings as a competitor on the ASP World Tour. With 12 career WCT victories, Machado was ranked among the top ten surfers for eleven straight years and was inducted into the Surfer’s Hall of Fame in 2000 and re-inducted in 2006…His contribution to the sport doesn’t end with his accolades in a colored jersey. Since his departure from the ASP tour in 2001, Machado has been one of surfing’s most committed ambassadors, roaming the globe, surfing the world’s best waves and deepening his commitment to environmental awareness.

And we here at Athlebrities love all things Machado, Machado and Machado.
