Andre Johnson Getting Houston in the Holiday Mood
Houston Texans, wide receiver Andre Johnson, has been working long and hard on his road to recovery after suffering multiple hamstring injuries this season. Even though this year hasn’t exactly been in Johnson’s favor he has still made it a priority to give back to the Houston community this holiday season.
Last week, Johnson took 13 kids from Child Protective Services on his annual Toys ‘R’ Us shopping spree. Since Johnson sports number 80, he gave each kid 80 seconds to grab as much as they could get their hands on! At the end of the shopping excursion, Johnson received a 7 foot receipt totaling $17,260.57 that he paid with pleasure.
Afterward the NFL player headed to Bastian Elementary School, where each student was given a present via the Houston Police Department’s “Blue Santa” program.
After a long day of giving Johnson had this to say, “I grew up when there were times at Christmas I couldn’t get what I wanted… I’m blessed to be able to play a game that I love and make a lot of money doing it. I always said that when I got to this position that I’d give back.”
Andre Johnson, a mighty-fine man who not only has the stats of an Athlebrity, but also the attitude, heart and perseverance one must possess in order to inspire. Even though Johnson’s had a rough year, it still remains a priority for him to give back to a community that gives back to him every week.
With the regular season coming to a close the Texans have clinched their first playoff berth in franchise history. Johnson and the rest of the Texans staff are confident he will be at full capacity just in time for playoffs.
