Samuel L Jackson and Celebrities Tackle Dunhill
SAMUEL L JACKSON AND CELEBRITIES TACKLE DUNHILL
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”
From Delinda’s book of ‘Quotes that never get old.’
Lay it on me Sammy! A few months ago, I was very fortunate to meet one of the greatest men of our time, Sir Samuel L. Jackson. To this day, I can still feel the softness of his velvet jacket as I slowly caressed his arm and asked for a hug. I also asked him what it is that he brings to the greens that make celebrities and athletes alike salivate at the thought of playing a round with him. “Money!” he replied in his usual, perfectly punctuated and enthusiastic voice.
So it’s no surprise to see Sammy J once again ripping up the greens at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships being held in Kingsbarn Scotland. Jackson describes golf as his “drug of choice” and even has a clause in his film deals allowing him to play twice a week…this event runs until October 5, and always includes a stellar list of celebrity/amateur players.
Among the celebs: DJ Spoony- admittedly I don’t know much about him except that he DJed at my flashkat Ian Poulter’s (ouch) wedding; Huey Lewis (L) is there making me feel really old: Hugh Grant (C) is creeping me out (but that’s another post all together), and perhaps second to Sammy in terms of favorites is Luke Wilson (R)-who always makes me smile because I watch Old School at least once a week. The championship incorporates two separate competitions - an individual professional tournament and a team event in which they are paired with amateurs such as showbiz identities or ex-sports stars.
A total of 168 teams comprising of one professional and one amateur contest the first three rounds, with one round being played at each of the three courses – St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie – in rotation. Two competitions are played concurrently – individual professional and team. The team score will be the best net score of the two players at each hole. After 54 holes the field reduces to the leading 60 professionals and ties, plus the 20 leading teams, all of whom play the final round over the Old Course at St Andrews…okay, I fell asleep during this paragraph but I’m sure there’s a few of you out there who care about the format…I for one, just dig watching Sammy on the greens while he frolicks with other celebrities.
